In this work I adapt and manipulate a photo digitally to become unintelligible. I print five different iterations of the photo with increasing degrees of abstraction on acrylic "folders"—shallow boxes with tabs protruding from the top of the file box—which I then plate with gold leaf in commensurately increasing degrees to obscure the etching underneath. This work is fundamentally interactive, asking the viewer to act as the archivist. There is a hierarchical order in the set which the viewer is invited to abide by or to ignore—either intentionally or not.
